Born in 1988, Victoria Harrild began studying the cello at the age of four, winning scholarships to both the Junior Royal Academy of Music and James Allen’s Girls’ School when she was eleven years old. At present studying with Josephine Knight at the Royal Academy of Music in London, Victoria took her early lessons from Susan Dorey, a cellist in the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and the City of London Sinfonia. In 2006, Victoria received the Duke of Devonshire Award at the Eastbourne Symphony Orchestra, International Young Soloists’ Competition and in 2007, as well as winning the Junior Royal Academy of Music Concerto Competition, she was given a Leverhulme Award of a full Scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music for four years and a Musicians Benevolent Fund, Music Education Award. During her studies, Victoria has been chosen to participate in master classes with distinguished artists including Colin Carr, Robert Cohen, Michael Dussek, David Geringas, Ralph Kirschbaum, Alexander Pavlovic, as well as working with the Vanburgh and Chilingirian Quartets. From 2002 to 2007, Victoria was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, becoming principal cellist during her final year in the orchestra. She has also led the cellos in the Royal Academy of Music String Orchestra and at the Gustav Mahler Academie. Although still only twenty-one, Victoria is also an experienced solo performer, having played frequently at St Martins in the Fields while still in her teens. More recently she has performed concertos in St Johns’ Smith Square, London and the Duke’s Hall at the Royal Academy of Music as well as playing chamber music by Brahms, Shostakovich and Mendelssohn for the Gustav Mahler Academie. |
