John Lyon
 
Originally from Golborne, near Wigan, John studied Music at the University of Huddersfield, specialising in Bass Trombone and Organ. After graduating with a B Mus (hons) degree in 1993, he stayed for a further year and gained his PGCE teaching award. John moved to Lincolnshire in 1994 as Head of Music at Spalding Gleed Boys’ School. In 1996, John was appointed as Head of Music at the Earl of Scarbrough High School, Skegness, where he remained for four years before taking up his present post as Director of Music of Boston Grammar School. One year later, John was appointed Director of music at St Botolph’s Church, Boston (the Stump). At the end of August 2006, he resigned from this post and took up his combined role as Director of Music and Head of Upper School at Boston Grammar School.

John is also involved in the work of the Royal School of Church Music. He is an RSCM examiner and a local committee member.

John plays the organ in parishes local to his home in Heckington on a free-lance basis.

Aside from his work activities, John has a keen interest in the construction of organs. He built a III manual and Pedal digital organ, owns a small II manual and pedal pipe organ and is currently working on a very small 24 key pipe organ which he is building from scratch.
