Alwyn Mellor studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and undertook masterclasses with Brigitte Fassbaender, Hugues Cuènod and Alfredo Kraus. Her subsequent studies have been assisted by awards from the Peter Moores Foundation, which have enabled her to spend time both in Italy and St Petersburg. For Welsh National Opera, she has sung roles including Micaëla Carmen, Marguèrite Faust, Fiordiligi Così fan tutte, Donna Elvira Don Giovanni, Liù Turandot and Senta Der fliegende Holländer. Other UK appearances have included operas with Chelsea Opera Group, ENO, Glyndebourne Touring Opera, Opera North and at the Edinburgh Festival. International engagements have included appearances at the Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria, for Opera Ireland, for the Canadian Opera Company, for Santa Fe Opera and in Treviso. In concert, Alwyn Mellor has appeared throughout the UK with orchestras including the Academy of Ancient Music, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the BBCSO, the CBSO, the Hallé, the LPO, Manchester Camerata, the RLPO, Sinfonia ViVA and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra at venues such as the Cardiff, Edinburgh and Three Choirs Festivals, the Welsh Proms, the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, St David’s Hall and Symphony Hall, Birmingham. International appearances include concerts with the Amsterdam Bach Soloists, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lyon, the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, the Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, the Orquesta Simfonica de Barcelona, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia. Current engagements include Santuzza Cavalleria Rusticana for the Nationale Reisopera, Ariadne Ariadne auf Naxos for Opera Ireland, Chrysothemis Elektra for the Canadian Opera Company and Opera North, Venus Tannhäuser at the St Endellion Festival, Immolation Scene Götterdämmerung at the Barbican Hall, Bronwen in Errollyn Wallen’s Carbon 12 for Welsh National Opera, Beethoven Choral Symphony for Raymond Gubbay Ltd, Christmas Gala for the Ten Tors Orchestra and Friday Night is Music Night for BBC Radio 2. |
