Soojin Han

The Norfolk Symphony Orchestra is delighted to bring young violinist, Soojin Han, to King's Lynn for this special Friends' concert. Although only 18 years old, Soojin is clearly one of the most promising violinists of her generation, having already played concertos with top orchestras throughout Europe and won many prestigious prizes. Born in Korea in 1986, Soojin came to live in England when she was two years old and began her violin studies six years later. Soojin showed such early promise that she was awarded a place at the Menuhin School, subsequently studying at the Purcell School in London. Soojin has already appeared as soloist with such orchestras as the LSO, the Poznan Philharmonic, the Bialystock Philharmonic, the London Soloists Ensemble, the Guildford Philharmonic and the Ensemble Ricercare de Paris. There are few other violinists who have given recitals in all of London's major concert venues and throughout Europe while still in their teens and Soojin has also broadcast on Polish and Korean radio.

In 2001 Soojin won the Manoug Parikian Prize, the Three River's Young Musician of the Year and, as the youngest competitor, was awarded Second Prize in the Wienawski International Violin Competition for her playing of the Sibelius Concerto. In 2002 she gained the Silver Medal at the LSO Music Scholarship Competition, playing the Sibelius Concerto at the Barbican with the LSO. A clutch of further important prizes and awards included the First Prize at the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artist Competition, The Royal Philharmonic Society's Emily Anderson Award and a second Martin Music Scholarship.More recent appearances have included a Prokofiev Concerto at a Rising Stars concert in Germany, the Bruch Concerto in Poland, recitals in Holland, Germany and France, and Soojin featured as a top award winner in a Musicians' Benevolent Fund showcase concert. So busy was her schedule that special arrangements had to be made for her AS level examination to be held at the British Council during a visit to Poland. The immediate future holds engagements at the Palace of Versailles, the Concertgebouw in Holland, a return to Poland and a concerto appearance with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Soojin plays on a Guadagnini violin kindly lent to her by Charles Beare.
