Tra Nguyen |
|---|
| Tra Nguyen is another of the outstanding young performers that the Norfolk Symphony Orchestra has been able to present at the Corn Exchange. Many of the orchestra's soloists come from the books of musical agencies but, on this occasion, there is a pleasing personal touch. Tra was brought to our attention by musician colleagues of James Stobart who have been at the forefront of helping Vietnamese musicians both in this country and at the Hanoi Conservatoire. Tra Nguyen was born in Hanoi, Vietnam. She made her solo debut at the tender age of ten at the Hanoi Grand Theatre and shortly afterwards gave her first concerto performance playing Mozart's K488 with the Hanoi Conservatoire Orchestra. In 1987 she was selected by representatives of the Moscow Conservatoire to study at the Gnessin Music College where she was awarded the Diploma with Honours. In 1992 she was awarded a five year scholarship to continue her studies at the Moscow Conservatoire with Lev Naumov. Tra Nguyen graduated as a Master of Fine Arts from the Moscow Conservatoire in 1997. Moving from Russia to England, |
| Tra studied for two years with Christopher Elton at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where her talent was recognised by a raft of awards and prizes. These included the Christian Carpenter prize, the Lloyd Hartley prize, the Cork Award and the Walter MacFarren prize, the top award, for her Piano Final Recital. Her achievements were recognised with a Royal Academy of Music Diploma. In March 2000 Tra was one of the finalists in the Dudley International Piano Competition and, a year later, gained First Prize in the Robert William and Amy Florence Brant Piano Competition in Birmingham. Although only at the start of her career, Tra has already given recitals and concerto performances in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Russia, Poland, Sweden, the United States and the UK. |
