Into the Woods
St Nicholas Chapel, King's Lynn, Sunday 19th January 2020, 3.30pm
Humperdinck | Hansel and Gretel - Prelude |
Hindemith | Symphonic Metamorphosis on Themes of Weber |
Brahms | Symphony No 2 |
Dispel all thoughts of winter as you join us on a heart-warming journey into the woods with three great classical companions. Humperdinck's famous musical re-telling of the Grimm brothers' well-known but gruesome story follows Hänsel and Gretel amongst the trees as they try to find their way back home. Hindemith's most famous work conjures up the chatter of exotic birds and the growling mysterious beasts on a quest to pay homage to Carl Maria von Weber. Finally, Brahms conveys a deep contentment in his pastoral symphony, adored from its first performance onwards, with its jubilant and electrifying musical passages.
It may be cold outside, but some of us have our eyes set firmly on the sunlit uplands of summer!
